If you are looking for something sweet to come into your life, then you need to read on about the gorgeous little Toffee!
Toffee is the happiest little dog around. His tail is always wagging, and he is friends with all that he meets. His charm and personality wins over everyone instantly and he leaves a fan club in his wake where ever he goes. Toffee loves attention, getting pats and cuddling up with you. It’s hard for him to stay still when he is getting attention as he just loves it soooo much. After a day of fun, there is nothing better in Toffee’s mind then snuggling up with his people on the couch. Toffee’s second love are his toys, and he is happy to play with them with you or will have games with them independently. He loves to chase toys and will cheekily bring it close to you but won’t give it up until he is ready for you to throw it again. Although he is a small dog and only 6.7kg, Toffee has the demeanour of a dog bigger than he is and would be a great dog for someone who usually likes the bigger dogs but needs one in a smaller package.
This little cutie found himself in a rural NSW pound and was penned with a medium breed puppy who he took under his wing, playing with her and snuggling up with – it was very cute (and yes she came into our care too). Toffee has gone into foster care with another small breed dog who he has tried to tempt into playing with him, but she is a bit older than he is. Out walking, he is fine walking past others (sometimes a little nervous if the other dogs are big) and has tried to initiate play with others (mostly small dogs). We feel he would be best in a home where he has regular access to other small/medium friendly and playful dogs to have fun with so it would be great if his new owners had a network of friends/family with suitable dogs that he could have playdates with. Toffee is a moderately active and excitable little dog who will require daily exercise and mental stimulation throughout his life to keep him happy and healthy.
While in foster care, Toffee has been brushing up on his basic training. His smaller size makes him easy to have around but his new owners should be committed to continuing his training and give him appropriate exposure to new things out and about. Toffee is learning to sit for a treat and walk nicely on the lead – he doesn’t pull but sometimes gets underfoot. For the most part, he is toilet trained but would need someone willing to instil good habits initially. He does like to jump up to say hello so his new owners will need to be ok with this or teach him to keep all four on the floor. Toffee sleeps throughout the night on his bed and travels well in the car though he is always excited to know what fun adventure he is going on. He is very good to bath and handles basic grooming without a fuss.
We are looking for a dog experienced home for Toffee where he will be a loved member of the family and included in the daily activities. He would be fine to live in a home with another small playful and easy-going dog who is already fully trained so that his owner(s) can focus on his development. Toffee is fine being left at home with his foster carer’s other dog – he will bark a few times at first and then settles quickly – something we expect would improve even more over time when he knows he has a home of his very own. He would also be fine to live as an only dog, but his new owners will need to be around more often than not, at least during the settling in period to assist him with the transition. Toffee will need to be allowed inside to be with his family and will need a warm comfy bed inside to sleep on at night.
Toffee has not met children while in care, but we feel he would be fine with older more dog savvy children who would not be fazed by him jumping up (10yo+ depending on confidence level with dogs). He loves to lie out in the sun for a nap during the day so will be looking for a place with some form of outdoor area. Toffee is a very likable little dog who will make a great addition to his new home. He is bound to bring a lot of joy and happiness so if you want that in your life then you will need to complete a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website as the first step. Please include plenty of details about your previous dog experience, current household members and the type of lifestyle you can offer gorgeous Toffee.
