Adventure buddy wanted!

Oakley is on the hunt for an active person or family to show her the world. She loves nothing more than exploring the rural landscapes, going for hikes, bike ride or a long stroll around the parklands.

She enjoys her free off leash time exploring the paddocks and has perfect recall but would need to be consistently practiced with her new family. She leaves the birds alone and isn’t looking for animals to chase when off leash at the farm, instead, she spends her time sprinting laps around her people like a whippet, sniffing the ground, eating poo, and running back to check in all the time!

Around her people, Oakley loves affection and loves nothing more than cuddles and attention. Her favourite toys are kongs and she could chase them all day.

If you already have a dog, she would benefit from a calm older dog that has a neutral personality and it’s too over the top in her space. She is curious of dogs when on leash and will calmly walk past without any fuss and will need a confident owner to continue this walking style. Oakley can still be curiously unsure of some high energy or unstable dogs so would not suit a dog park situation but loves doing farm days with her trainer.

Oakley needs an owner who wants the activity level but also understands the need to teach her to turn off. She understands place training and will thrive with guidance and reminders of this in her new home. She is easy to train as she is sharp as a tool and loves her food. She can eat anything! Zero stomach sensitivity.

This girl is not ready to be a city slicker yet, but with slow exposure and neutrality work, she will be fine. She can walk nicely in the city, but she can be tense and alert, she’s much calmer in residential and rural towns currently. When she’s fearful of something, she’s can be flighty, so her new family will need to work her through triggers. She’s mainly triggered by things when she’s indoors- door slamming, elevator, doors opening, dropping something etc etc. Outside in open settings she has no triggers & is super calm.

Oakley spent 18mths in a rural pound. She has developed so much since coming into care but still will require guidance entering real world situations. Her working dog characteristics need to be understood by her owners and our rescue will support the new owners with development sessions with Oakleys dog trainer to ensure she settles in well to her new home. We would love to find a couple or person that lives an outdoor lifestyle that has the will and ability to keep building her confidence in life scenarios. This girl is extremely smart so someone who enjoys communicating and training a clever dog would be ideal. She is a sweet and full of life girl that just wants to please. Will you be the owner for her to meet life’s full potential?
