Meet Luna, affectionately Lu. Lu is a 3 year old mix breed dog who was adopted as a rescue when she was a puppy. She is the most affectionate cuddly pup out there who would lay in bed with you all day if she could. Unfortunately Lunas health journey has become complicated as well as her owners lifestyle drastically changing which has lead to the heartbreaking decision to have her readopted.

At home Luna lives with another older dog, she currently spends her days indoors as her movement and exercise needs to be monitored. She loves human company and is good with children of all ages. She loves her toys, and will happily perch herself up on the very top of the couch with a good view and settle in for a few hours of napping. Her adopters have been able to take her to work with them and while she is able to spend 3-4hrs on her own we are looking for owners who can be around most of the time.

Lunas medical history is complex, it is important that her new adopters be aware and cautious of all her limitations. Luna has two chronic malunion / non-unions of the tibial tuberosities in her back legs. This has caused her pain, arthritis and an inability to bend her knees at regular capacity. 6 months ago, Luna was thrown a ball, her attempt to catch it lead to her snapping her back left leg, one bone with a clean break, the other with a fracture down to her foot. She has undergone major surgery to fix this, with a rod, multiple pins, and wires in place. This has meant she had an intensive road to recovery and has undergone restrictions to exercises and interactions with other pets.

What she can do: Walk 20-30mins on lead. Play with her toys under supervision. Basic training sessions for stimulation. Swim, this is a fantastic way to exercise her and she loves swimming with her humans. Physiotherapy

What she can’t do: Play with other dogs unsupervised. Run, jump or twist. Be off lead. No ball throwing under any circumstances.

Luna has all basic levels of training covered. She comes when you call, sits, stays and goes to her bed when instructed. Her socialisation with people is great, although she can be shy at first, particularly with men. When on a lead, Luna is quite reactive to other dogs in her space, this doesn’t always occur and as long as you keep a distance of a few meters and place yourself between her and the other dog, she is generally okay. Luna’s adopters have been working on re-socialising her post surgery which she is showing improvements on.

Luna’s ideal home would be with experienced dog owners, preferably working from home and able to assist her on her journey. She can be quite an anxious girl and is needing stability and consistency in her daily routine. Single story homes are preferred. She can live with children, and another older calm dog, as long as they are able to be separated when the humans aren’t home. She can’t live with cats or birds.

Luna’s past has been fraught with challenges, yet her spirit remains luminous and full of love. If you are ready to open your heart and home to this wonderful and deserving girl, Luna promises to illuminate your days with her joy and unwavering affection. By embracing Luna, you are not only gaining a loyal friend, but you are also offering her a much-deserved chance at a comfortable and happy life.
