Dot and Dash – a wonderful pair of terriers who are ready to bring a whole lot of love and happiness into their new home. Dot is a 9yo female (just under 5kg) and Dash is a 3yo male (just over 5kg). They came into care after their owner passed away and they were surrendered to a pound in far western NSW. Considering all they have been through; they have adjusted incredibly well to their foster home and life in Sydney. Dot and Dash are good friends with each other and are used to each other’s company, which is why we are rehoming them together, but they both bring something unique to the table with their individual personalities.

Dot is a beautiful girl who is placid and loving. Her favourite spots are beside you on the lounge, in your lap for cuddles or lying in the sun. When you are greeted by Dot, you get dancing front feet and a tail that wags so much it looks like it might fly off! She shows a lot of affection to everyone that she meets and is a sucker for a tummy rub. Dot is definitely a little lap dog who will take as many pats as you are willing to give her. This little girl loves her squeaky toys and loves to play fetch with a small soft toy too.

Dash is a typical young terrier who is active and playful. He loves to run around the yard, investigating anything that he hears or sees. Dash has prey drive typical of the breed and loves to spend time in the garden hunting lizards or chasing birds out of the yard; however, he is not vocal about it and is not a nuisance barker. Upon coming into care, he was not immediately affectionate, but this has grown day by day as he has settled in and now, he seeks out regular affection. Dash will jump up into your lap for a while and loves to give you a little kiss on the chin to show his love. His favourite way to be petted is with a scratch under the chin. Dash’s favourite toy is a fuzzy tennis ball – just don’t expect it to last too long!

A lot of things have been new for the dogs out and about in suburbia. Dot and Dash have gained a lot of confidence in a short period of time while in foster care and both enjoy their daily walks. They both walk well on lead with their harnesses. Both are cautious in new environments, Dot more than Dash; however, respond well to reassurance and Dot thrives off having a sniff as she goes along. Their new owner(s) will need to be aware that Dash could use twice the daily exercise in comparison to Dot, so should be willing to accommodate their different needs.

At home, the dogs are a pleasure and joy to have around. Both are toilet trained and use the doggie door to take themselves outside. They sleep in their separate crates next to each other throughout the night. Additionally, they travel well in the car and are not fussy eaters. Dot is a little scared by loud voices, thunder and fireworks; however, she will come and sit with you for some comfort and recovers very quickly. Dash runs around to investigate noises but is not stressed by them. Both will sit for a treat – Dot takes it gently, Dash is learning to take gently and getting better all the time.

We are looking for a dog experienced home for Dot and Dash together, preferably with someone who has previous terrier experience and is familiar with their breed traits. As they come as a pair, we are looking for a home without other pets. Dot and Dash should be allowed inside the home to be with their people and will need a warm comfy bed inside to sleep on at night. We will be prioritising a home where someone is home more often than not, particularly during the settling in period. Although they have each other for companionship and are fine home alone together, they do love their people and enjoy following them around the home.

We are unaware of how much socialisation Dot and Dash have previously had with other dogs. When out walking, Dash is extremely neutral to any other dogs and is happy to walk on by. Dot shows more interest and pulls a bit towards the other dog and is unsettled – no barking or aggression; however, she will settle with guidance relatively easily. They have been on pack walks alongside other dogs so would be fine to go on walks with your friends’ dogs once they have settled in if you like.

Dot and Dash will need a home with a yard where they can enjoy the sun and run around. Dash would also love it if there were lizards in the garden he could hunt! They are better suited to suburban or rural areas as they would probably find the hustle and bustle of inner-city life overwhelming. While they haven’t shown escaping tendencies, fencing should be suitable for terriers without any gaps small dogs could fit through. Dot and Dash are best suited to an adult only home where they can be the centre of attention. Their ideal home will be able to give them structure and routine as this helps them settle in quickly. In return, these two dogs will bring an immense amount of joy and happiness to their new owner(s).

If you would like to make these two beautiful terriers a part of your family, then please complete a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website as the first step. Please include plenty of details about your previous dog experience, current household members and the type of lifestyle Dot and Dash would have with you.
