Meet Barney – The Boy Who Never Gave Up

Barney spent 14 long months in a rural holding facility – that’s most of his life. He watched small dogs and puppies get rescue while he just waited around patiently for his go at a second chance. It took only seconds of meeting this gorgeous boy for us to know we did the right thing bringing him into care as he could not be a more deserving soul.

Barney is a calm, sweet, affectionate boy who loves nothing more than being with his humans. He’s happiest when included in family life — whether that’s cuddling on the couch, heading to the park, or splashing in the waves. His favourite thing in the world is swimming, and he’ll happily chase a stick or ball through the surf all day long. He loves to run off leash and is trusted with his recall.

This social boy gets along beautifully with other dogs and people. He loves to play, is respectful with canine friends, and greets everyone like a best friend. He has great body language and is really good at initiating play with his new friends.

Barney is toilet trained, knows basic commands, and is steadily improving on leash. He’s very food motivated and a quick learner, making ongoing training fun and rewarding. He’s also an excellent traveller — calm and content in the car after a quick look out the window.

He’s gentle and patient with kids of all ages, and he’ll make a wonderful companion for a family who can give him the time, love, and security he’s been waiting for and so thoroughly deserves. Barney is a great size and weighs in at a very manageable 22kg.

He will need another resident dog at home for company as he does suffer from some separation anxiety if left alone with no dogs or people around…likely a result of long term pound life but nothing a good play buddy can’t help with!

Barney has waited a long time for his chance — and now he’s ready to give his whole heart to a family who will never let him go and show him a world full of love, fun and adventure.
